Pregnancy discrimination is a form of sex discrimination and is prohibited by federal law. The Pregnancy Discrimination Act prohibits discrimination based on pregnancy in almost any aspect of employment. This includes:

The act also provides that if a woman is temporarily unable to perform her job duties, then she must be afforded the same accommodations that her employer provides to other employees that are temporarily disabled. In addition, medical conditions that result from pregnancy may be considered disabilities that require reasonable accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
